Am I the only one struggling to get up and about?

Hi there, I'm new to this forum and to cancer, having been diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer a little over a month ago. I'm on round 3 of 12 (folfox, oxyplatin and panatumamaub). I literally feel like lying down all day. I think others can get up and about and go to coffee shops, etc, but I really struggle with just staying upright most days. Is anyone experiencing this??

  • Hi THall

I hope you were given a hotline phone number to call if you had any issues or concerns about your treatment. If you haven’t tried them, I’d encourage you to do so since they may have some ideas to help, or at least reassurance. And if you've already rung, could you try again?

Meanwhile, be kind to yourself. If you’re body suggests rest is in order, don’t worry about anybody else. We’re all different, and react in our own way. If you can pace yourself, perhaps you could find a tad more energy between the rests.

You’re doing so well and your body has plenty of work to do to see off the squatter.

  • Hi

I often read here and think my mum’s experience was so different. It knock her on her back . Sometimes literally took the feet from her and took three of us to put her to bed after an infusion .
    She was just exhausted .
The second year of chemotherapy they reduced her dose and this made the world of difference.
My mum endured the first year as she wanted to make sure she had the best result . However the second year she also got a good result . Maybe just fortunate.

I guess it’s very individual and really can’t be compared . You are doing the best you can in the circumstances.

Two weeks after chemotherapy stopped and she bounced back .

    Take care ,
