Hi, I’m new to the group. I had colon cancer in the small bowel 10 years ago it was stage 3. I had a right re section followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. I’ve been clear all this time i had surgery to remove kidney stones last year. I had a belated follow up scan due to covid 2 weeks ago and the scan picked up a 8 mm nodule in my left lung and a growth 2.5 just outside my bowel I’m gutted and also don’t really know what this means. Can someone help me please.
welcome to the forum Faloola. So sorry to hear of your situation and I have to say most unusual after ten years .
Can I ask if you have had a PET scan ? Also did they compare the scan you had pre surgery for your kidney stones to see if there was any of these issues showing there ?
My mum had three nodules in the lungs. Lungs are notoriously bad for having them apparently and they may be something or completely benign . My mum has had over 35 scans so we know exactly when they popped up and how they developed over two years . The PET scan was able to separate out the one that was malignant and the two that were just benign lumps that decided to arrive . According to the lung surgeon this can happen . He was able to further separate them by showing her the blood supply to the malignant one but I can’t remember the details . Long story short they removed it at 8mm through keyhole , home two days later and never looked back . Her lung function has never been compromised. Others here have used a technique called radio frequency ablation and it’s even less invasive and worked well . Her team becomes concerned when one continued to grow !
Again I think they would want more information on the growth outside the bowel wall and ensure they have compared it to the post surgery scans .
The PET scan is normally good a separating out benign tissue from malignant .
I can understand your concern as I would feel the same and you would need more information to get a better picture of what is going on .
I take it they are processing that for you .
Here to support you through this and hoping it’s not a late recurrence.
Take care ,

Thanks court. The radiologist compacted this latest ct scan to the previous scans I’ve had. I already had a 4mm nodule on my right lung since 2018 that’s not grown. But an 8mm one has appeared on my left lung since then but they don’t know when it appeared as the 2020 scan is cut off at the bottom. The 2.5 thing that’s outside my bowel was there in 2020 and grown from 1.8 to 2.5. I’m being out with a multi disciplinary team. I’m shocked after ten years in remission of cancer as I was told you are classed as cured after this time. He said it’s just outside the bowel so I don’t even know what that means.
