Hi everyone,

Had my surgery on Monday, a bit longer and more difficult than expected but it's over and done with. Tumour was lower down Iin my rectum than scans suggested so I have a temporary stoma which will hopefully be reversed in 3-4 months. They managed to do keyhole with slightly larger incisions but didnt need open surgery so that was a blessing. Felt great on Tuesday, up out of bed at 6am, catheter out and walking to loo. A bit tired and sore.

Wednesday really low, sore and teary. Got analgesia and slept most of the day.

Today up early, washed, dressed by 9am and spent most of day up. Still a bit sore but looking forward to getting home tomorrow after visit from stoma Nurse.

I'll have results of biopsies end of next week hopefully but I am just so relieved it's all over. A lot of the stress of the last 2 months seems to have faded away and I feel better mentally too. The nurses here have been absolutely fantastic, every one of them I couldn't have asked for better care.

In bed now preparing for my last night here.

Thanks for all your kind words and good luck messages

  • Hi Caza

    Thanks for your post.
Great news that you’ve had your op and are doing well.
Once you’re home you’ll feel so much better. Nothing like your own things around for a speedy recovery.

Any questions ask away. I had lots of support here in the stoma support group. They gave so many tips and advice.

My stoma nurse also are amazing

  • Hi all,  got home yesterday evening. Still feeling really tired and not much of an appetite but certainly happier. Changed my stoma bag completely on my own for the first time today and managed well. My consultant surgeon told me just before I left yesterday that they hope to reverse in 2 months so fingers crossed.

Thanks for all your good wishes
