Hi all I have just been diagnosed with bowel cancer, all biopsies and scans done just waiting for my first doctors appointment (27th) to see what stage I’m at and what treatment I’ll be offered , to say I am terrified is an understatement , my family and close friends have been amazing but I’m so scared and trying to hold it all in I don’t want my kids to see me so upset x

  • I am 6 months ahead of you and have had major surgery AND Chemotherapy - Just be assured that it isn't as scary as it sounds at first.  Good luck

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. These first few weeks after diagnosis are very stressful but once you have a treatment plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better. Stay away from google - it can be scary and out of date - you can ask anything you like on here - there is nothing too daft or embarrassing.
Ive attached a link to a booklet that I was given at my first meeting which may give you a bit of a heads up about terminology, staging, treatment etc.

Bowel cancer is slow growing and very treatable - I’m now 5 years with no evidence of the disease - there will be a tough few months ahead but we’ll be happy to help and support you through it

    Take care

  • Please know there are so many like you in the exact same situation , I as well was just diagnosed a few days ago. The first three days I was in utter shock as I am only 48 and a mom of four. I needed to get some medication from my doctor to help take the edge off. It’s so scary but don’t feel like your alone. This is a great forum lots of encouraging people. You have got this!

  • Hello, I am new ish as well and can relate to every word you write, especially with the kids. I have had a week of radiotherapy and started chemo on Monday. There are loads of amazing people here who I am sure will be able to offer lots of advice and support. Stay strong. Moira x
