Hi Madpad. It is quite normal to still have the urge to go and sitting on the toilet and passing small amounts of poo can help. With a loop Ileostomy there are 2 ‘ends’ and sometimes the output from your bag can find its way into the dormant end and work through your bowel and out again.
Having said that it shouldn’t be to the extent that it’s leaving you in agony and exhausted. Have you spoken to your stoma team about it? You could also copy and paste your post onto the Ileostomy, Colostomy and Stoma board for advice?

Thank you so much for your reply it's strange how no one ever mentioned any of this. I did speak to stoma nurse who said It could be mucus needing passed no mention of stool
To be honest she wasn't very helpful I just wish the constant urge would just stop and give me some peace
Hi MadPad
I have had my ileostomy for 40 years and sometimes still get the urge to poop!! Before I had my rectum removed I used to pass mucus.
Maybe the reason why the feeling is constant is because your nerve endings are still healing in the area, after having other recent surgeries to that area the feeling was greater than before.
But I would suggest you speak to your specialist nurse or consultant so that can look into whats going on or prescribe you something to help.

Hi again Madpad. Just noticed this post on the bowel cancer uk site where someone found glycerol suppositories really good?

Hi thanks for info. I was finally prescribed enemas and omg they worked a treat. I passed several stools and everything settled. Why o why does no one warn you about this. Apparently it often occurs 8 to 12 weeks post surgery I just happened to be a lot longer. A wee heads up would have been good x
