Hi guys I’m VJ and I’m new around here Wave tone1

May 31st 2022 I was diagnosed with stage 2 rectal cancer luckily it hasn’t spread,  after the MDT meeting they decided they would be removing this 7cm tumour robotically, have any of you guys had yours removed this way.

Thanks in advance for any reply x

  • I had a removal on the 13th

  • I take it everything went ok, what are your scares like

  • Oh if your having robotic then if it's anything like mine they will be minimum once healed, little sore but that's to be expected, but getting easier every day, was sore to cough of move first few days but okish now.

  • Oh wow that’s great, I’ve been asked to take part in a research study run by the University of Birmingham its aim is to find better ways of training surgeons in the future in robotic surgery and I don’t know what to do, would you have taken part of you were asked

  • In all honesty I was in theatre for 10.5 hrs and when the anesthetist came to put me out it was a case that I felt comfortable drifting off to sleep and then I am feeling myself dazed and in thevrecovery ward the 11 .5 hrs in-between didn't exist in my life  I was awake then asleep then started to come round, it wouldn't have mattered to.me who was there doing what I wouldn't of known, I'm sure they will be well supervised.

    Just my opinion

  • Your right, I have nothing to lose, if my operation can help future surgeries for people with theses cancers then I’m all for it Ok hand

  • Hi there in may first patient in gri to have it done out hospital within 4days my recovery was excellent

  • Hi in May first patient in gri to have robotic surgery out within 4 days my recovery was excellent

  • WOW out within 4 days that’s impressive, how long was your surgery, I’m having my surgery done at QAH In Hampshire x

  • Hi VJS,

You mentioned QAH. My husband is in there at the moment with a blockage. They are very good on all fronts, but not so good on the after care. Make sure you know who to ring if you need help once you are out!!!!  He had keyhole surgery initially, but I don't know if it was robotic, or not. Either way the recovery is much quicker than if they cut you, and apparently the chances of adhesions are less with keyhole. Good luck.
