So I've got my colonoscopy next Friday. I've had 2 before and the prep and procedure wasn't good. I'm now experiencing pain in my vagins and considering I had a total hysterectomy 23 years ago there is nothing there to cause pain. I've read that the cancer can invade the vagins so I am now pretty terrified. Has anyone experienced this?

I suspect you are panicking unnecessarily, but was curious when you say “there’s nothing there to hurt”. Have you had your vagina removed? A total hysterectomy would normally remove just the womb and cervix.

Hi. No, that’s not quite how it works. You still have your vagina, can have sex etc. Having your vagina removed means none of that is possible. The total hysterectomy leaves your vagina in place, whereas in my surgery it was removed, along with the rest of my reproductive system. I’m not suggesting for a moment that you have anything wrong with your vagina, sorry, I was just curious when you said there was nothing there, as for me that is literally the case!

I don’t think anyone would be able to hazard a guess why that would be, but I presume you’ve had regular gynae checks following your hysterectomy?
