Just been fast tracked for colorectal cancer. Waiting for first appt. Have read various articles and symptoms seem varied. Would like to hear peoples initial symptoms if they're happy to do that.

Gill

  • Hi . My initial symptons were loose Bowels then blood appearing in the toilet bowl. My initial appointment didn’t really confirm anything but the colonoscopy showed the tumour. There are lots of things that have similar symptoms to bowel cancer like colitis, diverticulitis, crohns etc. and only 1 in 10 colonoscopies turn out to be cancer but it is the best way of getting checked out.

Ive attached a link from the bowel cancer uk site about symptons and please let us know how you get on?

  • Hi Gill33

My initial symptoms were similar to piles. FIT picked up blood in the stool sample and after having a colonoscopy and seeing the tumour for myself it all made sense
Continual pressure in my back passage sitting on the toilet to pass a ribbon stool sometimes  with blood and mucus

Id been treating myself for piles diagnosed by my doctor for a decade!

Now I write this down I realise how ignorant I was or maybe I buried my head in the sand. I was relieved to have my diagnosis  as I was going to get help at last.
Now I’m enjoying life to the full and the cancers in the bin.

  • I've ignored symptoms for a year putting it down to ibs or haemorrhoids.  I've gone from explosive diarrhea to tiny stools with blood and mucous. Leaving me with pain up my bottom and the feeling that I still want to go. The wind is off the scale. Can't use public toilets its way too embarrassing. I pass long thin stools and I've forgotten the last time I had a normal stool.

I feel for you. I didn’t realise how tired I was until after the op. I felt exhausted getting up and if I walked to far I’d have to sit down.
Once I was diagnosed then I had a reason for how I felt I changed my eating plan, did some recommended exercises and felt so much better.

  • Hi gillh33 I had a few spots of blood on toilet paper a few times, put it down to piles, no other symptoms. . Fortunately for me a bowel screening kit came through the post, when came back was positive.  It was a shock for me. Things then happened very quickly with colonoscopy, scans etc which confirmed colorectal cancer.  I now start radiotherapy tomorrow

  •  Hope all goes well for you tomorrow  Smileymo

I felt relief once I had my treatment plan.
    Good luck
