Hi Everyone ,
Just been diagnosed with Rectal cancer that is low and close to anus ,it has not spread anywhere else according to CT scan results but could be in lymph nodes so Nurse thinks it could be Stage 3
and I will be having 5 weeks of radio/chemo therapy 5 days a week ,Surgeon says he will then discuss Surgery with me .
after reading other peoples experiences this surgery is quite radical ,removing rectum part of bowel and Anus
does any one have any experience of an alternative to this surgery ie Papillon
Thanks in Advance
Sonny
Hi and welcome to the board. Have you discussed Papillon with anyone? I’m not sure if it’s advisable with the lymph node involvement but you could contact the centre for advice?

I’ve also attached a link to KevH’s profile - I don’t know if he’s still active on the board but his profile makes interesting reading

Hope this helps - the APR is a big op but several people on here have been through it and are getting on with their lives - you can type APR/APER in the search box at the top of the screen to see their posts
Take care
