Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site but I decided to join as my dad has recently been diagnosed with colon cancer.

His consultant has advised that it's been caught early and chances of recovery are good but understandably, as a family we're all concerned as we lost my grandad to colon cancer in 2019. Grandad had an op to remove his entire colon when he was 78 (he passed away at 86 years of age) and had a colostomy bag. He adapted to life extremely well with his bag and life slowly got back to normal for him until the cancer returned and spread to his liver and lungs. He sadly passed in September 2019.

Dad is almost 65 and he's not dealing with his diagnosis very well. Although he doesn't have symptoms yet, he's stsrted to notice he's feeling tired throughout the day and is taking regular naps.

I'm here to chat with others who are supporting family members through their diagnosis, or indeed anyone who can advise me on how best I can support my dad through this difficult time.

Many thanks x

    Hi,

I had my test done (Colonoscopy) when I was 60 and was told that I had bowl cancer, and within two weeks had it taken out (A foot of bowl)  and test's done on the rest of my body and all came back clear!.

Had a stoma bag for 6 month and then back to normal, I'm 72 now and doing well, and a wonderful wife who has been by my side all the way.

All you can do is be there for him and hope all goes well for you?

    Regards,

    Hi,

Thanks so much for your reply. So glad to hear that your op went well and that you're now all clear!

Dad had his colonoscopy a few weeks back and also had a scan to check it hadn't spread and luckily it hasn't.

Will be taking dad into hospital on 21st June and his op will be on 22nd June. I have booked the week off work so my step mother and I can visit every day.

I'm hoping everything will go well and we can get him home and recovered and start getting back to normal.

Thanks again for your reply, I appreciate you taking the time to reassure me. I wish you and your wife all the best Slight smile
