Hi, I’m looking forward to talking to people in similar situations to myself.
I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in August 2020. I had surgery the following September and then 3 months chemotherapy.
My follow up scan in August 2021 showed up a swollen nodule on my lung. It’s been monitored since but in Feb had grown to over a cm which means it’s something if concern. A biopsy confirmed it’s a spread from my bowel. I’m having it removed next week. I’m also experiencing bad constipation and am so scared it’s back in my bowel too, although my consultant has assured me as I had a PET scan a few weeks ago that this is unlikely.
Im feeling so anxious about everything I’m struggling to focus on anything at the moment. Would love to hear from anyone feeling the same x
Hi Adele
Welcome to the forum .
You have had a tough time . I just want to let you know if you get keyhole surgery for the lung my mum found it much easier in terms of recovery than her bowel or liver resections .
She had a small two inch scar neatly tucked under her arm . The operation room roughly an hour . They deflated her lung , removed the offending met and re inflated her lung . They kept her in recovery to ensure it was fine . One night in high dependency . One night on a ward , she was up doing her breathing exercises and walking up and down the corridor. Home the second day .
That was a procedure called Vats . A bit tougher if it’s open surgery .
However that was back in 2016. Lung function has been great with no visible deficit . No other mets since then .

Totally understandable . It’s only human when you have been through so much but the PET seems the one they turn to as an additional source of information .
These knocks take time to find your feet with again but you will . My mum is doing great now .
Take care ,

Hi Adele, sorry to find yourself here, but lots of great people. Yes unfortunately Court is right I’ve suffered anxiety through this cancer time. I was diagnosed in June 2020, I had chemoradiation got complete response, then March 2021 had a spot on my liver, had that ablated, then came back on my bowel so had surgery last November, 3 lots of chemo couldn’t have last dose because of an abscess at the surgery sight. Spots on my liver but ct scans show no growth. Scan s coming up so very anxious. Just want to be done with treatment. My bowel was resected, and I’m going normally, but I have had a bit of constipation. Hope you start feeling better, the anxiety is the worst thing. Sending hugs xx
Hi Adele, so sorry that you are having your operation cancelled. I got mine cancelled on the day, I don’t know how I got out of the hospital!, I just hope that they don’t push it back again. I’m trying meditation, amongst other stuff. Just hope at sometime it kicks in. Sending hugs xx
So sorry yours was cancelled. It takes so much strength to get you to the hospital on that day, to be told you’re not having it must be awful. Have they rescheduled it? Mine has been but I’m anxious it’s going to be cancelled again. I feel like everything is out of my control. I just want to feel in control of my own life again. It’s awful x
H Adele, sorry, I was diagnosed in 2020. I was put in a private hospital because of Covid. I’m high risk so they wanted to operate in the main hospital, I then went for chemo radiation in September/t and got a complete response. Then found a spot on my liver that was in March 2021 had that ablated, when I went for my colonoscopy in August the cancer was back on my bowel, so had resection last
vember. I started chemo in January, ajavant chemo could only do 3 out of the 4 cycles because I had an abscess in my stomach. My anxiety has been awful. I agree it’s not having the control. When you
op has been cancelled then being told it may be pushed back again when you just want it out. I have my scans next week and then the beginning of May see my oncologist, just praying I’m clear and hav
a break from treatment. Sending you best wishes
