Hi all, new to this group.
A family member has just been diagnosed with Rectal Cancer. I was trying to read up about it, came across this group which I’m sure will answer some of the questions and give us reassurance.
Scary and hard times ahead but trying to stay positive. My family member is still hoping to work while receiving treatment (chemo/radiotherapy), as work is a massive part of his life of course financially and also socially. But realistically I don’t think he’ll be fit enough to continue working full time ? Can people share their experiences during treatment, work wise ?
thank you so much
Hi . I had 5 weeks chemoradiotherapy and found it to be very doable. I asked for early morning appointments then went straight in to work afterwards. The chemo part of the treatment is quite a low dosage so the side effects aren’t as severe as post op chemo which can be harder. I worked in an office and found it to be a great distraction and also (maybe in denial?) made things feel a bit more normal?
Hope this helps and please feel free to ask anything else - we’re a much better source of information than google which should be avoided!
Take care
Karen x
Hi . I celebrated my 5 years all clear in November. If you click on my name then you can see my journey so far. I’ve also attached a link to a post that we did on radiotherapy if your family member wants to have a look?
