Hi - I’m new to the group…!

My father has been diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer and is on his first cycle!

He is currently complaining of leg/hip pain.

Has anyone else experienced this as a side effect of treatment?

Many thanks in advance..x

  • Hi

    Welcome to the forum .

So sorry to hear about your dad . I take it your dad has a rectal tumour ? Some people do have hip pain but it’s always best to get his team involved and keep them informed . It may be as benign as postural changes since diagnosis. Or something they could help him with but you don’t want him sore and it’s also important to check everything out .

My mum got put on strong medication as she had some back pain that got miscommunicated . However I had seen her sitting twisted.  It took a bit of time to eliminate and chat it through with her team .

It is something his team or Gp should know about so I would give them a call .

    We also have a helpline 0808 808 0000

. They would be happy to chat this through with you .

    take care ,

  • Hi - thank you.

I’m sorry to hear about the miscommunication with your mum and hope that her pain is manageable at present.

He had a tumour in his large intestine and small bowel. The tumour was partly removed. Cancer was found to be in 12 out of 15 of the lymph nodes removed and in the lining of his abdomen.

He has 1 week remaining on his first cycle. He has an infusion of oxaliplatin every 3 weeks and then takes capecitabine tablets daily. Other than for the pain in his hip/leg he’s responded well to treatment thus far.

Many thanks for your support - much appreciated.

    Best wishes to all.
