Hi everyone. Finally I have people to talk to who hopefully understand what I’m going through.
i turned 50 last December and found out early June that I had a rare form of cancer only 5%of those with bowel cancer have this type :-(.  .. mum of 4 amazing kids and Nana to 6 beautiful sassy Granddaughters.

Squamous cell carcinoma in Bowels. Trust me to have the rare one. Not a pity party. I’m angry as hell.  Diagnosed early June and 1/2 way through my 10 wk treatment break. Suffering horrendous excruciating bone pain. Was on Radical, harsh Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy every day. Teeth and gums affected (why?) and this bone pain oh my days. Never felt anything like it. Is this normal?? Has anyone else suffered similar side effects?. Xx

  • Big welcome to the forum  You know I could swear a few people have come through the forum lately with Squamous cell diagnosis! I normally notice it as you mentioned it is quite rare for bowel cancer !

What chemo agents did you use ? Has it become worse since you started your break ? I know my mum had increased neuropathy after stopping chemo but it did start to reduce again !

I am wondering if you might like to speak to one of the nurses on the Macmillan helpline 0808 808 0000. They would know a bit more regarding what is within the range of normal regarding pain levels and what really needs your team to address ! For me it sounds as though you need to be reassessed ! There is certainly pain clinics ran by anaesthetic staff to look at complete pain management! But I would want to know why too !
What is the plan for your next stage in treatment ?

    Take care ,
