I think it varies from person to person and disease to disease. Not sure if there's a fixed time .

    Hi

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. A stage 4 diagnosis varies so much so it's impossible to say. A stage 4-er could be someone with one small tumour in one distant organ or it could be someone who has widespread disease in multiple organs. Then you have the cell differentiation which indicates how aggressive the cancer is - those with well or moderate differentiation tend to be slower growing.

On top of all of that you have any potential mutations, such as BRAF, which can sometimes indicate the likelihood of chemo working effectively. Some can even respond so well to treatment which can lead to potentially curative operations or, at worst, significant life extending ops. Others who cannot be operated on are kept stable on chemo for many years.

    thankyou any info is useful

  • Hi  ,

Welcome to the forum ! Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It’s tough to predict initially even for the medics , whilst they can tell you statistics they can’t predict how you as an individual will respond to chemotherapy. It turned out pretty effective for my mum and rerouted her back to surgery . She was in treatment on and off for seven years but has had a further five treatment free . It can take many twists and turns but they keep a close eye on the scans and where possible will add other approaches in .

My mum had a substantial spread to the liver but also had significant shrinkage due to chemotherapy!

I hope your treatment goes well !
