This morning my partner received a letter by post which announcing that he had cancer. This is ridiculous! By post!!
No one from the GP didn't call. He was alone at home when he found out, so far, no one had called him back by know to talk to him, to let him know what the next steps or any other details.
I'm so confused, I don't even know how to support him. He is feeling so left!
Hi . What an awful way to find out. Had he had a colonoscopy? If so you could ring the hospital and ask to speak to a Colorectal Nurse? If you feel able, please share a bit more information with us and we’ll be happy to support you both through this.
The nurses on here will be able to chat with you if you want to give them a ring too on 0808 808 00 00
Take care

Hi Kareno62Thank you very much for prompt replay. Unfortunately, he doesn't want to give me more details trying to protect me. He was diagnosed with a polyp on stomach in February this year and they have remove the polyp in May. The operation was successful, but 2 weeks after surgey he did some blood tests and now he has received a letter that he has colon cancer. The last two days, he is trying to get an appointment (phone or face to face) with his GP so we can get some more information about the diagnosis. Unfortunately, the reception from the GP booked phone appointment in 2 weeks time - that's all I've received so far. I don't know if this is a normal way of dealing ? Emotionally we are destroyed.
Thank you to your cancer nurse for giving us good advice.
Thanks
Angela
Hi
I have to say pre covid this would have been totally unheard of . He would have been brought into a clinic if possible and hopefully with a relative . A lot of work has gone in over the years to try and reduce some of the trauma associated with certain diagnosis. Only reduces some but at least focused on compassionate care and provide the opportunity to ask questions .
It is entirely up to you but phoning the secretary of the Dr involved in his care and asking for an in person appointment from them might be a way of reducing some of this . His GP may not have much more information but might be better able to explain it .
At this stage they will be gathering information so will probably have a few more scans lined up .
Our helpline staff would be happy to chat this through with you 0808 808 0000.
I thought some in person clinics were now up and running so a phone call might assist your husband. I am so sorry you got such a difficult situation to navigate .
Take care ,

I would assume that this letter would have come from the hospital where he had his polyp removed? If so, they are the best people for you to make immediate contact with now....as I doubt your GP will be able to help you much with this at the present time.
Best wishes
