We are awaiting results from the pet scan and he has his planning scan on Monday a week today to begin with radiotherapy treatment initially followed by chemotherapy and then hopefully an operation to remove a 6cm tumour , thank you for  accepting me into the group just wanting to try and get as much help and advice for him as I can x

  • Welcome

So sorry to hear about your husband. Great you are getting informed as I think we are more useful when we have more insight into the situation.

I am going to tag in  as she has had similar treatment and will be able to give you more information than I can . Once all the information is gathered and a treatment plan falls into place it really does help to give it some direction .

Ask anything you like , everyone is very supportive and happy to share .

    Take care ,

  • Hi  and a warm welcome from me too. I found the radiotherapy to be ok. At the planning meeting he will have some tiny dots tattooed for them to line the machine up to. Each session then involves lying on a long bench, they line up the machine with the dots and it whirls round for about 10 minutes and you’re done. I had to lie on my front with a full bladder but my friend lay on her back with an empty bladder so think it may depend on whereabouts the tumour  is. There can be a lot of waiting for a machine so I used to ask for an early morning appointment. The skin around the bottom can get a bit sore but the radiographers will give him a cream to use and keep a close eye on him.

Ive attached a link to a booklet that describes some of the treatment, terminology etc. that you may come across. My tumour shrank by 75% after chemoradiotherapy so everything crossed that your hubby has the same success.

Please feel free to ask anything you want on here - there is nothing too daft or embarrassing and we’ll be happy to support you both through this
