After four rounds of chemo, have now been told I need a new treatment called immunotherapy, because the cancer has spread to my liver. Whilst this treatment sounds promising, the side effects listed are similar to those with chemo, which I found very difficult. Has anyone else had this treatment, and how did you cope with it?
Hi,
I am also on immunotherapy, but a different kind called Nivolumab, although I think they are similar.
I have had hardly any side effects, just feel a bit tired, my liver enzymes were slightly raised at one point but have settled now. I am type 2 diabetic and my glucose levels have risen but my medication is being tweaked to get this back under control. I feel and look very well and have just returned to work full time after being off for 12 months.
I have had 9 fortnightly treatments and am having a 2nd scan in a couple of weeks. I had a scan after 4 treatments and showed response to the treatment with a slight shrinkage.
My tumour was MMRd which can hopefully have a good response to immunotherapy. Chemotherapy did not work for me.
I wish you good luck with this treatment, I feel very fortunate to be given this.
Take care and let us know how things go.
xx
Thank you for that: it all sounds very reassuring. I haven't started the treatment yet, as I only got the result of my scan yesterday, which was disappointing. Although my consultant said there have been good results from immunotherapy, it is good to hear from someone who has experienced it.
