Hello
My mum has just been diagnosed with bowel and widespread cancer I am hoping someone may be able to help me find the best way to wash her hair as she is practically bedridden. Also could anyone suggest some sort of plastic overpants as her diarrhea gives her no warning and this upsets her greatly.
I am grateful for any help people can offer.
Many thanks

Hi
So sorry to hear about your mum . I am wondering if the Macmillan nurses on our helpline might have experienced with those caring / nursing aspects as they have years of hands on experience. 0808 808 0000. The district nurses might also be able to assist with the continence aspect too .
There is most definitely equipment on the market to assist people to get their hair washed from bed . But I am not sure who supplies them but if you phone social work their occupational therapists should do a priority assessment of your mum’s needs including her self care aspects and assist her where possible . You GP can also refer her as a priority. The helpline staff could also advise you how to go about this in your mum’s area as there are differences depending where she is located .
Take care ,
Court
