Hi I was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer and had very successful op to remove the tumour in January. I have just begun a belt and braces 3 month chemo course and am struggling to manage the pins and needles side effect feelings in my fingers. Any tips very welcome

  • I have silk liner gloves that I wear around the house, I've hung cloths on door handles so that I don't have to touch the bare metal if I've mislaid my gloves.

I keep a set of pocket warmers in all my coat pockets for when I go outside, (I haven't needed these much as gloves is usually enough).

I warm my cutlery up before eating.

If I notice the pins and needles coming on whilst I'm doing something I try to stop and warm my hands, it makes hanging out the washing very slow!

keep cloths by the fridge to wrap around anything I want from there.

    Door handles wraps!

    Best wishes

  • Hello Ukrainiangirl,

I’m also undergoing a 3 months belt & braces course of chemotherapy – nearly half way through. I’ve been very lucky in that I haven’t suffered too much with pins and needles but some of the things we have in place are:

    Socks tied onto door handles
A flask of tepid water next to bed at night (I fine room temperature water sometimes isn't warm enough)
A flask of hot water next to washbowl in bathroom at night (as hot water takes so long to come through our taps)
I’ve invested in a pair of thermal gloves from an outdoor sports provider - I‘ve found ordinary gloves just don’t doFrowning2
I carry around a pair of silk glove liners to put on in the house if I feel I need them, I sometimes wear them inside my thermal gloves outside too
Coming home immediately after my chemotherapy I always wear a hat, a snood round my neck and across my face, a fleece and my gloves (so far so good)
I rub hand cream into my hands about 12 times a day and massage my fingers at the same time (not for long)
I eat a lot of oily fish and seafood and take Omega 3 capsule supplements

I don’t know if some of what I do is relevant but I’ll continue just in case.
    Best wishes
