Hi I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in February I had an right sided hemicolectomy 3 weeks later and I start chemotherapy a week on Monday oxaliplatin, fluororouacill and folinic acid. Also a operation was mentioned which involves peeling back the lining of my stomach and placing chemotherapy inside! As anyone heard or had this done. Also any information on the chemotherapy would be much appreciated.... forgot to mention I’m a 52 year old female and very scared  about this while thing. Thanks in advanced xx

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum . Glad you joined in the forum and I am sure everyone here totally understands the fear associated with diagnosis.

You seem to have recovered from the primary tumour surgery so that’s great .
I hope your chemo goes well . My mum had some of the agents you are getting . She had Oxaliplatin infusion and then tablets for two weeks . She had to be aware of cold sensitivity after the infusion and to make sure her face was wrapped up with a big scarf . Drinks at room temperature and avoid any cold surfaces . A little pain of cotton gloves came in handy .

Did they mention “ Hipec” surgery ? They do that quite a bit at specialist centres . It’s frequently referred to as a chemo bath .

Hopefully we can not only support you but reduce some of the fear surrounding it .
    take care ,
