Hi everyone,I have bowel cancer and have been offered radiotheraphy as a means of pain relief.I cant be operated on as other health problems With the radiotherapy I have heard I could be left incontinent ...not something I relish but I think anything to take the pain away would be grateful Many thanks.
Hi
I have enclosed a link to a booklet that goes through the side effects. I think the bladder can get a wee bit irritated but I have not heard too much about that . I will tag in another member with experience who might be able to reassure you . Kareno62
I am so sorry you are having so much pain and hopefully the radiotherapy will take that away for you .
Take care ,

Hi . I was fortunate not to suffer any real side effects from my radiotherapy although my friend struggled towards the end and said weeing was uncomfortable but this stopped after she’d finished treatment.
My radiotherapy shrank the tumour by 75% and although I wasn’t in any pain it stopped the blood that I was seeing in the toilet and my stools increased in size.
Hope it helps to ease things for you
Take care

Hiya Karen Thanks for your reply.Im struggling here to decide whether to have the radiotherapy or not I know last week when I was screaming in agony I would have happily had my arms n legs cut of ...anything to take away the pain but just now with the increase of painkillers and Amitrypiline(making me like a walking zombie lol)Im back to the undecided All I think about is my oncologist saying I could be left doubly incontinentOh dear what a thought .All this is to try n shrink the tumour as I have a bucketload of other health problems which is why they cant operate.Anyway Ill just have to continue trying to decide which way Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend Take care xx
Hi Lindala, I had no symptoms but picked up on bowel cancer screening test. I had chemo tablets and radiotheraphy for 5 weeks. I had one bout of stinging when I went for a wee, but I was treated with antibiotics and it went. I’ve not had any physical problems from it. Wishing you well ,
