Hello. This is my first post and I am not certain why I am posting except Macmillian seems such a great organisation. I am 65 years old, married for 39 years to a wonderful wife, working for myself with no intention of stopping. I was diagnosed with bowel cancer January 2020, was operated on for 9 hours in February but they couldn't get to the tumour, so had chemo and radiotherapy in April and May and then was operated on again in July. They got it out but to do so they removed my colon and anus and sewed me up. As a friend said I now had a Barbie doll's bum. Of course I also have a permanent stoma now. Its all a pain but I reflect every time it upsets me that I could have died so this life with all its trials and tribulations is better than that and I am still able to have a laugh, smoke a good cigar and care for my family and grandchildren. So all I wanted to say really was keep your chin up, stay positive and fight the dark thoughts hard. Do not let them beat you. My best wishes to all.
What a wonderful post . Very inspirational but realistic in equal measures . If it’s ok with you I will bookmark it as people often want to address the permanent stoma aspect and how to cope . Better coming from someone with experience and understanding.
Have a good day !
