I have been diagnosed with mid rectal cancer 3cm.....was told would have surgery soon..but found thickening of uterus on scans...had hysteroscopy to remove fibroid...now waiting for result of that....also they are now saying to have chemo and radiation before surgery.....which is worrying as I would like to have it out...also haven't been able to empty bowels since surgery last week.....told not to use laxatives....but couldn't cope any longer and got some from doctors yesterday...in agony trying to go...managed to pass a bit....but bleeding a lot.....is anyone else having trouble like this...also ..is it normal to be bleeding all the time!?
Hi I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling. Chemo and radiation is given to shrink the tumour before surgery to allow the surgeon to get it all removed. Do you have a Colorectal Support Nurse you can ring about the bleeding or the surgeons secretary? It may be nothing to worry about but you don’t want to risk a blockage so it would be better to run it past someone?
Take care

Thankyou for replying and advice....I have been ringing care nurse who told me not to take laxatives ...to drink plenty of water...which I have been doing almost too much...but yesterday I couldn't cope anymore and had to get something from the doctor...glycerine suppositories and cosmocol....didn't work very well...was in agony all night trying to go...just kept passing blood....I am seeing the oncologist tomorrow about treatment...so I'm trying to think of what questions to ask ...
i was hoping to have surgery first. As I'm worried about the continual bleeding spreading cancer around....as I only had surgery last week to remove fibroid (unable to be removed the previous week without general anaesthetic ) so I have to wait for result of the fibroid...don't know what to do if that's cancerous as well...I'm trying to be positive...but it's so hard....also had bad throat ..damage to wiggly uvula at back of throat...and my hand is black and blue...and what with not being able to empty bowels for a week.....it's nice to be able to talk about it on here..my husband is very good...but is finding it hard to talk about...Thankyou for replying :)
