Morning everyone,
My very much loved husband has been recently diagnosed with colon cancer, already spread to the liver (not very much, thankfully). He has seen the oncologist and we are now waiting for the initial appt with the chemo day ward to organise the PICC (?) and receive some kind of familiarisation with the process. It is nearly a week now and no call yet. I am finding it concerning that things are moving slowly. Is this normal?
Thank you.
Hi and welcome to the board although I’m sorry to hear about your hubby. It’s hard to compare time scales against when things were ‘normal’ but I remember having to wait a couple of weeks for my picc line fitting as they only did them on wednesdays! Bowel Cancer is very slow growing so please don’t worry that things might be spreading. Have you been allocated a Colorectal Support Nurse? You could maybe try giving them a ring for an update?
If you have any questions about a picc line then please let me know? I had one fitted as my arm was so sore during and after the iv chemo and it was the best thing I did. No more searching for veins and they could take bloods out of it too. There are limitations eg. No playing golf or tennis (?!) it had to be kept dry and needed to be flushed once a week at the hospital but I’m sure that will all be explained at the fitting - which was totally painless by the way.
Hope you get an appointment through soon
Take care
Karen x
