Hi feeling very deflated. I am so sorry to hear and see what you are all going through. I have not been diagnosed but having endoscopy March 22nd. I am a 40 year old mum of 3. 22 year old young man who lives in Jersey away from home. Miss him so much. And thanks to COVID haven’t hugged him in over a year now. I have an 8 year old daughter who is 9 in May and a 11 month old who will be 1 12th April.
My bowel issues started in September. One day I was going toilet 2/3 times a day then all of a sudden the next day I had thin stools. I had strained a lot the day before so thought could be because if that. I went and got checked out by the doctor and they said examination was normal. So I went on my way. But the stools were still thin even when my bottom settled down. Back and forth having phone appointment with the doctors about this issue telling them things weren’t right. I did call about some other things as well in between as it has been one thing after another with my health since moving in to my house last February 2020. And we had a water leak for nearly a year and also have mould. So think this has surpressed my immune system. It got to the point my doctors wouldn’t return my calls when I was supposed to have an appointment. I eventually pushed to see a specialist consultant who wasn’t concerned about my issues. Even though my thin stools we’re getting thinner and then loose and some days not being about to go. My consultant said he can order a FIT test but if already purchased them to do at home so the consultant said to let him know the results. So I plucked up the courage to do it and it gives an answer within 5/10 minutes. And it was positive!
I had been referred and went to see private consultant as I have medical insurance but I had issues a couple of years ago and had a colonoscopy so the insurance are wanting information to say it’s not related to existing issues. I let the consultant know and he wants to do a colonoscopy straight away but until I get insurance sorted can go forward with it.
So I went back to my doctor and had an appointment about my daughter first then after I said is it my turn now and he said they’ve had a meeting about me and decided to only let me have 1 appointment a month!! I had rang a lot but I needed them to listen that this wasn’t normal for me! I got it out that I had the FIT test coming back positive and he changed his tune. He even said so you could have cancer then. I said thanks for that! He said yes but that’s why you have the FIT test for. Great doctor.
I received a call from the hospital booking today and they booked me in for an endoscopy for March 22nd.
Very scared especially with all the time gone by. Can’t function properly. Partner has gone on furlough as I can cope with the kids.
Just wanted to air my worries and seek support.
Hi
I just want to welcome you to the forum . What a struggle you have had . Certainly it’s not uncommon for younger people to not always be heard .
What I would say to try and reassure you there are many other causes for positive Fit tests that are not cancer related. By far the most are not but you have absolutely done the right thing as everyone needs to know why they have some blood in their stool . So well done for advocating for yourself . It really does need to be checked out . However we have many people who pass through here with symptoms that turn out not to be cancer .
However bowel cancer is very treatable and we are here if you need us .
Jersey is beautiful. I love it there . Hopefully you will see that boy of yours very soon .
Take care ,

Hi and a warm welcome to you. The waiting for appointments and tests is very stressful but it’s good to hear that you finally have an appointment. There are a lot of conditions that can cause the symptoms that you’re having - diverticulitis, colitis, crohns and, yes Bowel cancer, but the only way to find out for definately is to get checked out.
Please stay away from google. You cannot self diagnose this and you will worry yourself silly with the things you might read. If,and it is an If at the moment, it does turn out to be Bowel cancer then it is very treatable nowadays and we'll help and support you through your treatment.
Please keep posting and let us know how you’re getting on? Have you thought about ringing the nurses on here for a chat too? The number is

The Board is here for all people whatever the stage of their journey so please feel free to post if you just need a bit of reassurance or a virtual hug sending
Take care
