Hi everyone
I have had a colonoscopy and am awaiting various results. A worrying time.
what is particularly concerning me is that I have low iron and eating very little
my gp gave me some tablets but the colonoscopy man said don’t worry about taking them at the moment
I really don’t know what to do
tried ringing the colonoscopy people at the hospitals but it’s a 48 hour wait for a reply
I’m feeling quite weak
Hi
You might like to chat that through with our helpline staff 0808 808 0000. Quite a lot of people have low iron If there has been some bleeding in the colon which can be for a variety of reasons . Did the surgeon say why to hold off taking them? I think they can cause constipation so maybe that was connected to it . You will probably hear in the next week or two and give you more insight into what is causing the low iron levels .
You could always refer back to your GP and see what they advise now . It’s just hard when they are in the process of gathering information but don’t have the full picture .
It is very stressful and I hope your doing ok handling that aspect .
Take care ,

Hi AJE, I was also told my iron levels were low, following my operation. They seem to be much better (109 latest blood test results) once I started eating more normally and including small portions of red meat, lentils etc in my diet. Hope you can manage to eat better and feel better soon.
Take care.
