  • Hi

Really sorry to hear that but if you read my mum’s story ( click on my user name) you will see she had a similar pattern . My way of looking at it was some micro disease was still present and had revealed itself . When my mum’s lung tumour went to pathology seven years after her initial diagnosis there was no mention of other mutations and it seemed to be the same as when she was diagnosed. I know everyone is not the same but hope it gives you some encouragement. Additionally you might like to read  s story as she has successfully addressed a bilateral lung spread with Radio Frequency Ablation which can be used in the liver in some instances . Criteria for all as you will be away .

What we did find beneficial was consulting with specialists in each field and reviewing the options . I should also add the first recurrence she did have more chemo and looking back I think that was beneficial in terms of long term control . My mum has had two recurrences and I know just how disappointing and overwhelming it can be but hopefully his team will already be pulling a plan together . It’s a horrible, horrible bump on the road but still lots of avenues to explore .

The first recurrence for my mum was quick but the second was around six years later and she has had a further five years clear so hold on tight and see what options are available to him .

Thinking of you too as it’s just not ease but I am assuming he responded well to chemo the first time .

Anyway that’s just my own way of processing things and know everyone is individual.
    Take special care ,

  • Hi Jo Jo

Very sorry to hear about your news. @court has mentioned me here, because I had bowel cancer removed in May '19. I had no follow up chemo then...as all the margins were clear after the Op. However, after a CT scan in March '20, it was discovered that I had two small lung nodules (in one lung.)

I then had chemo (only tablets,) from May to Oct. Then in October '20, I had a lung ablation...which zapped the nodules. This treatment is dependent on the size/ depth of the nodules, & where they are positioned. They cannot usually be over 1cm, & they can't be near any main arteries.Obviously, his surgeon can detail all that info. for you both. Also, this treatment is carried out in certain hospitals throughout the UK. I live in Bridport, Dorset....& this was done in Bournemouth Hosp. (The closest hospital to me that carries out this procedure.)

So far, it has worked for me....& my recent CT Scan a few weeks ago, shows there are no signs of cancer right now. So, do look into this procedure - which is very easy. For me, is was a stay in hospital overnight....no surgery, just a couple of plasters on the entry points....& no pain.In fact, all back to normal the next day!

    Wishing you both very well.

PS...Thanks @court....I really must write up my story on 'my page' sometime soon x

  • Sorry I got that a bit wrong but I did remember you had two nodules .  But thank you for sharing that’s really helpful .

I was just thinking the same today . I should update mine too!

    Hope you are well ,

  • Thank you fir sharing. Mark has abalation on liver in November. It’s just come back so feeling disappointed. Xx

  • I understand . Sorry I don’t seem to be getting details right today . I have gone back and read that again . So sorry about that .

I think it would be fair to say my mum was at it for a full 2 1/2 years before the micro disease settled . Even then it popped up later in one lung . However it did significantly lessen as time went on.  The one thing that kept me going was to think about the tumour load and each time it did seem to be less .

It also sounds as though they envisage him to be suitable for ablation still . His liver will have regenerate and keeps these options open . One thing that greatly encouraged me was my mum’s surgeon saying after her second liver resection he would be happy to go in again if required. Turned out it was not . By that time she had four wedge resections one year , more chemo then 73% resection . The other thing I would say the lung treatment was a complete walk in the park compared to the liver resection. Two days in hospital, two weeks taking it easy then never looked back .

What is also very tough is mentally and emotionally picking each other up after such difficult news . It’s just so draining for them to have to continually go through treatment and for you supporting. But they do seem to think he has options so that’s worth holding onto . My mum’s liver surgeon said in the second year of a stage 4 diagnosis even people with the best of inner resources grow weary but it did get better . I do hope for the same for your husband. But also know exactly how much strength and energy it takes to face it all again . So very much here for you to listen .

So sorry once again . I was just saying to my husband I thought my concentration was getting worse through lockdown . But I will take better care in future .

Does he have a date to start chemo ?
