Hello Everyone,
I’m just introducing myself after a diagnosis last week of colon cancer by flexible sigmoidoscopy. Subject to confirmation from biopsy results, of course but the gastroenterologist was very certain. I’m now on the 2 ww pathway and waiting for a CT scan, hopefully within the next week. So, I’m currently in the midst of that awful waiting stage, knowing I have the dreaded disease but at present with no idea of its extent or its stage. I’m hanging on in there, taking each day at a time and fortunately for me, apart from the irregularities in my bowel, I feel well in myself and have no pain. My weight is stable and all my bloods have returned as normal, twice. I don’t know if that’s indicative of anything regarding staging but right now I’m leaning hopefully on these facts.
I’ve been reading the threads here in the lead-up to my diagnosis as I suspected I may need this support myself. I’ve been warmed by everyone’s encouragement of each other and I think now is the time to get on board.
Hi
Welcome to the forum . Obviously sorry you have to be here but great joined in . I think everyone here will agree dealing with the unknown aspects is really tough but once you get the direction of a treatment plan it’s a lot easier .
Can I just say despite it all you sound as though you have a good handle on this already . Also going into any procedure from your starting point can only be a good thing . My mum was in great shape really and I credit it to her good recovery . There is quite a bit of research being undertaken to show the benefits of post surgery recovery from even moderate exercise like walking . Unfortunately covid might delay the actual report . But it’s also something you can control .
Others will pop in to give direct experience but I just wanted to welcome you ,

Hi and a warm welcome from me too. I’m so glad that reading some of the posts has helped you. This waiting bit is pretty stressful but things will feel a bit better once you have a treatment plan in place.
Bowel cancer is very treatable nowadays and everyone on the board will be happy to support you through this.
Take care and let us know how you get on
Karen x
Thank you Karen - things seem to me moving quite quickly now, as I've had my CT appointment through for Monday, so it won't be much longer before I know the position and what will happen going forward. I'll update as things progress. Meanwhile, thank you for your support!
That was quick Glad is moving forward quickly for you .
Stay in touch ,

Hi Shwmae, I received my diagnosis on Xmas eve and was incredibly shocked and also quite angry. I am a 46 year old mum of 2 boys and have lived generally healthy and fit. Things sound to be moving nice and fast for you, which is great, so take comfort in that, especially in these times. At the time, I was also told 2 WW but I did make it clear, in a very polite way, that I hoped to hear back from the team asap.
Try not to think the worst. I did that, and looking back, it was pointless and just added more stress to the situation. Your blood results sound good, so again, take heart in that.
Take care of yourself in the meantime and try not to over stress. Keep in touch.
Regards,
Thank you Rose2020. I had my lung stress test yesterday on an exercise bike. They worked me hard but I was really encouraged that I did better than would be expected on average for a person my age and general stats. That bodes well for my recovery, so I’m adding that to my list of positives. I’ve also accepted an invitation onto the SafeFit research trial, which gives me free access to virtual sessions with a cancer exercise specialist assigned to me before, during and after treatment. I’m literally feeding my mind, body and spirit with every positive I can glean - and yes you’re right - not going down that ‘worst scenario rabbit hole!
Hi kyrani99 No, I can’t say I have had these experiences recently. It must have been especially hard on you though, to have grief to contend with at the same time as you were dealing with bowel cancer. I do hope the worst is behind you now.
By the way, I think your end quote is lovely!
