Hi I’m new here. So glad I found you all

Been feeling tired and no appetite for some weeks. Turned out I’m low on iron which led to my colonoscopy yesterday. They found 2 likely cancerous lesions plus blockages in another part of the bowel. Samples of the lesions have been sent away and I’m awaiting a blood test and MRI. Scared stiff they’ll say there’s nothing they can do. I have a daughter of 33 who I I haven’t told yet until we know the full picture.

once again very pleased to meet you all.

  • Hi and it’s nice to meet you too although I’m sorry that you’ve found yourself here. The waiting for tests and scans and meetings is very stressful but once you have a plan in place then things will feel a bit better. Once the consultants have your biopsies and scan results then they’ll meet with all the other specialists involved and agree on a plan for you. Bowel Cancer is very treatable nowadays so I can appreciate you not wanting to tell your daughter until you have all the facts to hand.

I shall give you my usual advice which is to stay away from google - it is out of date and downright scary in places. You can ask anything you want on here and if you click on people’s names then their profile page may outline the treatment that they’ve had.

Please keep posting and we’ll be happy to support you through this

    Take care

  • Thanks Karen. Google is my worst enemy!

  • Hello AJE - it’s nice to meet you too. I’m recently diagnosed and there are some lovely people on here who are very reassuring. Mine is a very similar story, I thought I had piles ( I have them as well!) and when I noticed blood in the toilet I put it down to them. I didn’t have any other symptoms. It got worse so I went to my GP who had a look and thought she could feel something. Sigmoidoscopy confirmed a lump and I was told it was almost certainly cancer and I had a polyp removed nearby as well. It was Cancer but luckily scans have found it hasn’t spread but due to its location I have to have a course of radiotherapy and low dose chemo to shrink it with a view to surgery after that. I also have two children in their 30’s and I kept it quiet until I’d seen the oncolgist and I could tell them it was being treated and this was how - so I understand you waiting to tell your daughter . In my case it was definitely the right thing to do, they were both upset at the time but were quickly reassured when I explained my treatment. I think we are all scared stiff there is nothing that could be done - that was the worst bit for me after my scan and my Dad died of bowel cancer 20 years ago so I immediately thought of him, but treatment has changed so much now I’m very positive I will be fine in the end (I’m 59). Take care of yourself and best wishes. Judy x
