It's been a month since my CT scan which showed the two spots in my lungs, but I've to get my PET scan in Dundee tomorrow afternoon , im I way to early to feel symptoms? I have a slight tightness in my chest, no pain and a bit of a cold wheeze and the odd nervous cough, is this me maybe overthinking things and manifesting things? I didn't go to bed last night, im worried sick that I won't wake up, I know  I'm probably panicking to much is this normal?, How fast would the spots grow in the time since they last looked at the scans? I'm severely paranoid right now and my mind is racing.

  • Hi ,

Honestly it’s just the stress that comes from a difficult diagnosis. I really genuinely don’t think you would have many symptoms at the size you are mentioning . Lung mets can be very slow growing . Have a think about how you were a couple of weeks before you knew and you probably did not have many symptoms and the diagnosis a complete shock . My mum’s mets were watched from 2 mm to 8 mm and it took two years to get to 8 mm . The last scan they went from 4 to 8mm so doubling in value over six months . That was  when they decided to act as they were picking up pace .
My mum has had a tiny dry cough since she was on chemo . It has been there for over ten years yet when she had her lung met diagnosis I was sure it was to blame . It was still there after surgery .

This is tough and I think it’s totally reasonable to feel concerned . Remember our helpline staff are there for you in times like these . They are really reassuring. 0808 808 0000.

My mum has never had any issues with breathlessness before of after surgery.

You could also speak to your GP to get some support with this until you get the reassurance of the treatment plan from the consultant . It’s so much easier when you know the plan .

You sound as though you have had a terribly difficult night but you are going to get through this and we are here to help you achieve that .
