Hi there, my names Mart
I had bowal cancer operation in October, and I feel like I haven't had the care I should of?
5 days after my operation they found an infection in my wound. And for now to cut a long story short, it's been on going leaking from then.
At Christmas eve a part of my (protective lining that sits over your small intestine), came out of my belly ? (Which I do have pictures of)
But 10 ish days before that I was in hospital again, and the consultant said to me that part of that lining has got stuck in my small intestine and died ? So just wondering why he didn't do anything about it then if he knew ?
I've been in hospital 5 times since October, I've been off work all this time too .. just feel like I've been pissed around!!
There was even one time I was discharged from hospital and was given no paper work ! So I didn't even know what I was meant to do ? So had to sort appointments etc on my own.
Just wondered if anyone else has had bad experiences? And how you've coped with it?
Luckliy it's healing now, but I can't stand to look at it, it's horrible :-(
Many thanks for your time
Mart
Welcome to the forum . I am so sorry to read your account . It sounds very different to the many surgeries and hospital admissions my mum had . Without a doubt you went through an incredibly difficult experience. Either due to covid or surgical complications that is more than most have to endure and I can totally see why you would find that almost traumatising . What a lot to endure .
I will let others address it if they have had similar experiences.
Everything is so terribly complex just now and accessing treatments so very hard .
Thinking of you and glad it’s started to heal at least .
Take care ,

Hiya Court
So sorry to hear what your mum has been through.
I also have just been diagnosed with DVT .. but I'm so desperate to get back to work. I'm going back to work on a part time basis on the 1st of March.
I just need to get back to some kind of reality!! It's driving me mad being stuck at home.
I was was signed off from the nurses on Thursday, and it's been so so uncomfortable and horrible have no dressing on, the first night I stayed up til 4am as I was so scared of sleeping with out a dressing on.
I had to many bad experiences of it leaking in bed etc .. even had to call an ambulance at 1 point as I live on my own and it leaked through my dressing and clothes and on to my bed etc etc
Anyway thank u
Mart
Hi
So pleased to hear you are heading back to work . I think that great and people do seem to need the normality and routine that it brings . It would even be different if friends could come round and break up the day but lockdown has interrupted the normal support structures that play a vital role in recovery . Probably more than we will ever understand .
That must have given you a terrible fright ! How distressing . Sounds quite a complication you have had . Glad it’s starting to improve . But these wounds can be tricky and I am glad it’s starting to go in a better direction for you .
My mum was fortunate not to have post op complications like that . She did gain three stones of fluid after her liver resection and that was awkward but despite looking like a pregnancy it was all contained on the inside and was not visually giving her a fright !
I think what you have been through is tough and I hope getting back to work assists putting distance between this and returning to your normal life .
Is it getting any easier to sleep without a dressing on it now or do you feel it’s got a bit of healing still to do ?
Take care ,

Hi Court
Actually I've put on loads of weight to.. my bellys getting bigger, would this be something I should be worried about?
Also I'm a bit worried tonight... normally my stomach don't stop growling .. gets even worse when I've eaten ... but ive hardly heard i thing tonight ? .. plus im normally on the toilet? But only been once today? (Which I don't mind) but it's out of character today ??
Which I never had this pm done if I knew i was going to go through all this !
Mart
Hi ,
My mum’s was just a post surgery complication and her doctor gave her a diuretic which relieved it .
Have a chat with your GP as they can separate the normal post op issues from any you need to be concerned about . It took a while for my mum’s to resolve .
I take it you are concerned as your bowel is showing a different pattern . I used to be able to hear my mum’s from the other side of the room but that eventually all stopped .
What is a possibility without the reassurance from your Doctors you are left trying to interpret some of this yourself when I think your GP could possibly help you and take some of that anxiety away . My mum’s GP was a real valuable part of her recovery . Give them a call and get the reassurance you need .
Hope you manage to get a good sleep tonight .

Funny enough I do have to call them tomorrow about something else, so I could have a word (if they listen to me, last time I spoke to them about a few things he turned round and said "we generally only deal with 2 things, you'll have to make another appointment)
My consultants and doctors have been bloody useless!! .. the nurses have been bloody excellent! I got them some chocolates and a card on Thursday as I thought they might sign me off .. there the true hero's!
Well text my mum as she's had the same op.. and she she "It's a good sign .. means your insides are healing ?
She could be right as I ain't really been eating, but I've been pushing myself to .. only one meal a day so far .. so guess that's why I'm putting weight on ? I lost 4 & 1/2 stone since October.
I'll try my best with the sleeping it's getting a little easier.
Thanks for chatting
