Hi folks I was wondering about waiting times for treatments, has there been a lot of people that have had to wait because of the covid-19 situation? I'm frightend that the longer I have to wait after my Pet scan the worse my condition will get, although I not showing any symptoms from the Cancer in my lungs it still really worries me.
Hi,
Just had a look at your profile . The lung nodules you mentioned are very small and if I am reading right , two are present . If you click on my user name you will see my mum went straight to surgery for a nodule of around 8 mm . I think if there is uptake on a PET scan the MDT meeting would need to decide the order of events . Either chemo first or review by thoracic surgeons . If that’s the case I would imagine you would be reviewed at the Golden Jubilee and I could be wrong but I think that’s a covid free zone . A green site . However even without covid it did take around six weeks as her case went from the normal MDT , referred to the Thoracic team MDT and that took time . Despite that straight after the consultation with the thoracic surgeon she was done a week later .Home two days afterwards . They took excellent care of her .
Not sure where you have your chemo but both the facilities like the Beatson and the Golden jubilee are stand alone sites . They have been able to function away from facilities like the Queen Elizabeth and the Royal which have covid care going on . In that regard we are very , very fortunate. What I would say stages 1 to 3 follow protocol, clinical judgements and MDT meetings take a little longer from our experience but treatment follows quickly after the decisions are made .
My mum was diagnosed with a lung met in Nov and had surgery in Jan to give you a feel for that side . If it’s chemo first then I would imagine that would be quicker.
Long story short I think we are very fortunate in Scotland the way our services are set up . Are you asking your GP about the covid vaccine?
My mum’s lung tumours did not grow in that time .
take care ,

Hi Cally
I expect that the waiting times for treatment are variable & dependent on where you live right now....but the decisions made at MDT meetings for you will also be based on your personal condition.
After bowel cancer in May '19....I also had follow up scans, & in March '19 a CT scan showed secondaries in my lung...2 small nodules in right lobe, the largest a similar size to yours at 5mm (1/2 centimetre.) I then underwent Chemo. Tabs. from Apr - Oct, which shrank them both. Then in Oct. I had a 'Lung Ablation' which is a very non invasive procedure (stay overnight, & you can choose between GA & Sedation.) This small Op. blasts the tumours....but, not every hospital has the facilities. Yet also, it's dependent on the depth & where the nodules are positioned.
Just thought it might be an idea for you to enquire about this procedure.
Best wishes
Marian
Sorry, should have said March '20 (for the follow up scan!)
