Hello to all, just took the call from my Doctor this morning saying 99% sure I have bowel cancer, CT scan is Monday (thank you NHS) so hoping to know more after that.

just wanted to thank those who contribute, my mind is all over the place and seeing the comments and advice is a massive help. Like many I feel helpless and looking for certainties where non exist. Understanding a pathway is a great help though.

Seeing the comments on distractions at this time is good advice whilst I wait to hear more from the tests and doctors. I have 100 questions but still don’t know what to ask. Lucky that a combination of technology and kind hearted people gives us this opportunity to share and support.

Many thanks.

  • Hi

Big welcome to the forum to you . A difficult day for sure and as you will have seen mentioned a period to gather more information that can be very hard on the nerves , However you have come to the right place for support and encouragement. Everyone here understands from observing as a carer / relative or experienced as a patient .

Someone is always around to connect with and reduce the sense of fear that can accompany a diagnosis. The treatment plan gives the pathway through this time .

You are also welcome to join us in the “catch up thread”.
We are here to support you until this is firmly in the rear view mirror .

    Take care ,

Thank you court, this forum is the only thing that’s helped me keep a grip today. Weird that it’s easier to take help from “strangers” but feel like a burden on the family at the moment. Thanks again.

  • Hi EdG1969,

My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer back in October, and it's been quite a journey so far. I understand your feeling of being a burden, my husband said he felt like that, but trust me you're not a burden, it's probably the helplessness of not knowing and not being able to do anything about it.  Once you have your ct scan and results you'll have a clearer understanding of what's next. We found once we had a treatment plan it felt more doable, we had a sense of direction.

Wishing you the best for Monday,

    Love Frances xx

Thanks Frances, grateful the CT scan is quick but scared for the outcome. Appreciate you writing and sharing your husbands experience. My best hopes for you both.
