Hello folks I'm new hear!!,Had rectal cancer, got it removed with the works ,chemo ,radiotherapy , eventually successful surgery, I was given an ileostomy which developed a melon sized hernia behind it, i was called for a video meeting with my surgeon and my collorectal nurse last Wednesday hoping to discuss corrective bowel surgery and to get hernia fixed, but received the devastating news that after a terrible year of healing, I now have secondary Cancer of the lungs my family and I are in bits, we thought we had a good run of hopefully being totally Cancer free but this news has shaken our world. I'm going for a P.E.T scan next Tuesday in Dundee, I would have preferred it in Glasgow as I'm from Falkirk and that would have been easier, but I suppose you have to take what you can get in this current situation we are all in. I'm pretty in the dark about the whole thing and finding it really hard this time around to see any light in it.

  • Hi

Come to Glasgow a warm welcome is always on hand !

So sorry to hear about your news . It’s so tough hearing it’s spread . Once you get the information from the PET scan you will be better placed to look at your options depending on the number and size of the spread .

If you click on my user name you can read my mum’s story . Her cancer showed up in her liver then her lung . She had three nodules but only one had uptake on the PET scan . I will link in a booklet that you might find helpful on treatment options . We have a great thoracic unit at Golden Jubilee to consult with if necessary.

They will assist you through the process and get the right treatment pathway for you . All have criteria but depending on size and location some treat with chemo , surgery or even radio frequency ablation where possible .
It is pretty devastating to hear but this is not without hope .

We are here to help you get through this very difficult part in putting all the pieces together to get a better picture .

Sending all our best wishes to you and your family .
