Well, this is all new territory.  My husband, aged 53, was diagnosed in mid-Jan. T2n1. He starts his radiotherapy on 22nd, having been for his prep & tattoos this morning.

No idea really how it's going affect us really yet - just taking it one step at a time.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the board from me. Bowel Cancer is very treatable nowadays especially when caught early. I was 53 when diagnosed as T3 N1 and had 5 weeks radio chemotherapy. I found it to be pretty doable but like a lot of the treatment everyone has different experiences. The radiographers were very good at checking that everything was ok and supplying extra cream if needed.

As you say it’s totally new territory and I didn’t know anyone who’d had this type of cancer so this board was a huge support. Stay away from google - it’s out of date and misleading - you can ask anything you like on here or just read previous posts/profiles.

Taking it one step at a time is a great plan - there’s usually quite a few weeks gap between finishing radio and having the op as the radiotherapy continues working for several weeks afterwards and hopefully restrictions will be starting to ease by then so maybe you could plan something nice to look forward to even if it’s just a walk followed by coffee and cake in your favourite cafe?

Make sure you look after yourself too? There will be a tough few months ahead and a partners support is invaluable but make sure you take some time out for yourself and accept any help from others.

Please keep posting and let us know how things are going?

    Take care

I had T3  n/o m/o responded very well to treatment.. I did feet sick and tired, but given lotions and potions for symptoms.,the staff where kind and considerate. They tested everyone for COVID and blood tested every week and it was all done in the same clinic where I had mine.UCLH in London. Wishing your husband luck  and sending hugs.x
