I’d like to say hello. Yesterday I received a call from my consultant telling me that I had rectal cancer. I need an MRI scan early next week before the team meet on Thurs to discuss a plan.

I have had Crohn’s disease since 1988, numerous operations and I have a stoma. Nothing though compares to how I feel right now.

I want to be positive but it’s so hard.

I know I will have a great team around me to get me through this, I can’t stop thinking about the worst case scenario though.

I’m not sure who to reach out to and who can send me lots of positive thoughts.

Saying that it’s helping raising my fears with you guys. Sorry to ramble on but I’m scared.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the board from me. Not sure who to reach out to? Well it’s us! Stay away from google - you can ask anything you like on here and/or the Bowel Cancer uk Board.

Bowel Cancer is very treatable nowadays especially if caught early and once your scan results are in, your team will decide on a plan of action and things will feel a little easier. I won’t tell you not to worry because I know that’s not possible but please remember that thoughts are not facts.

There are lots of people on here who are at various stages of treatment and if you click on people’s names then their profile page may show their journey so far.

I know a lot of people hate the ‘stay positive’ mantra but if you can just break your treatment into stages and take each one as it comes and try and keep fit then it will all help.

Please keep posting and let us know how you’re getting on

    Take care

    Karen x
