  • Nice to meet you too  welcome to the forum . Sorry to hear about your husband but it sounds as though it has been caught very early . It is a difficult time just now with lots of consultations being done on the phone but hopefully they will give him information about the type of surgery he will be having etc soon .

It is very frightening indeed but hopefully we can help reduce some of the fears that surround these issues . Ask anything you like about surgery or recovery and hopefully someone will be able to assist .
Before you know it he will be in recovery cancer free ! I held onto these thoughts in the days before my mum’s surgery .

We also have a helpline 0808 808 0000 if you every want to pass anything through them . They do all forms of support from emotional to money etc .

    Take care ,

    Hi Court

Thank you for your reply, hubby had his pre op yesterday which went ok hes going to be having a right hemi colectomy or something cant remember if thats the right name, the only issue they flagged up was he already has blood cancer so that may complicate things but they seem fairly confident. So i guess i just have to try and put all my faith and trust in them and keep everything crossed that this will solve his problem.

Its so hard we have told our girls (12 +13) and they took it ok but theyre just as worried as i am and i feel unable to put all our minds at rest.

Is this likely to be something that keeps re occuring hes got stage 1a but they didnt say much about whether its likely to be an ongoing battle or how it effects life expectanty etc and i totally forgot to ask them. Im sure they would have said if it was a huge issue... Wouldnt they.

Anyway thanks again for the reply

  • Hi

    https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/bowel-cancer/staging-and-grading-of-bowel-cancer

I have included a staging booklet and you will be able to see stage 1 is caught very early indeed . My mum had a right side resection and they were able to reconnect her bowel given its location and did not need a stoma . All depending on the location they may be able to carry out keyhole surgery . Which is much better recovery . My mum’s bowel has never really been a big problem since .
Bowel cancer caught early is very treatable and your husband seems to be in that group .
However despite all that I am sorry he has to face surgery particularly when he has other health issues too. But he has a good team and family around him .
    Take care ,
