Hi, i am due to have the above within next 2-3 weeks and am terrified..I know exactly what happens, surgery to form template etc..the zapping with radio..lying flat on back in bed for 3 days etc. but it all sounds extremely terrifying to me...I had anal cancer in 2019 which was actually cured with 10 days of palliative radiotherapy, all well for nearly a year and here we go with a tumour in the rectum, 1cm to 3cm in just over a month...I am too old for apr sugery (76)..anyway i would like anyone who has had this treatment to tell me their experience, warts and all, please don't leave anything out, and how they were when treatment completed and home again..thanks

  • Hello

Welcome to the forum but I am sorry you are having to endure more .

Initially reading your title I wondered if it was a new approach but did they mention Papillon treatment? Contact radiotherapy ? If so I will tag in  as he has had some experience and is very helpful . You might like to use the search function at the top right hand side ( small magnifying glass) . It does not come up with Interstitial Brachytherapy, but does for Papillion . I think if you give it a go you might be able to get the direct experience you are looking to read up on . I think it a bit more tolerable .

Hope that is of some help to you .

  • Hi thankyou for your reply, it is definately interstitial as oncologist described it all to me and i have booklet with all details, i just wanted to hear other members experiences

  • I understand but it is not coming up on the search function and I have never seen it being discussed.

However I have watched a documentary on it within the prostate field where they insert radioactive seeds near the tumour . I knew the oncologist so I paid attention  . The only other thing I can suggest is you ask on the womb forum or prostate forum . If you search there under just brachytherapy. I have read a few research articles but not seen it used here in the U.K. . Great news though that it is .

I will also have a wee look and see if I can find the name of the documentary as it was a patient/ oncologist account .
    Take care ,

  • Hi ,

    I had a look guidelines .
EBRT is most often talked about here but Brachytherapy is used where they insert the radioactive seeds . There is some information on that in the search function if you just type in “ Brachytherapy “it comes up on this forum or you can do an advanced search covering other types of primary cancers that use it too. Might give you more info .

Papillion is contact brachytherapy and has a different delivery method .

Sorry for the confusion . Think it’s just not normally given it’s full title . Unfortunately the only episode that won’t come up on the documentary is the one covering Brachytherapy. Typical .
Anyway hopefully you will get the patients account of the treatment if you type in Brachytherapy .

    Take care ,

  • Hi ,

I have had a chat with the Community Champion for the Womb forum . A lot of ladies have had Barchytherapy over there and they would be happy to share the process with you .
