Hi
I was diagnosed 7 weeks after a polypectomy histology , with an aggressive colon cancer just before Christmas.
I have already been told that I will need a resection followed by chemotherapy.
I have my ct on Monday to check for spread./staging
My question is how long after staging is my op likely to be ,all I seem to do is work and wait
Thanks in advance
Hi , welcome, and a ((hug)) . Can't directly answer your question, but pre covid in 2019 it was a month between diagnosis and operation for me. The op was brought forward as there was a cancellation, so would have been 5 weeks. This period covered the scans, initial staging, MDT meeting, pre op etc. Staging got updated after the operation. I have a feeling that things are very different now. Perhaps someone more recent can help.
Stay safe
Hi Poppysmama, I first went to surgery thinking I had piles then was sent for blood tests, CT and MR1, all within 4 weeks. So I felt things moved really fast. It was agonising news to hear at the end of 2020 but am hoping all goes to plan for my resection operation due to take place on the 11th Jan. I pray there is no delay! It is a stressful time. Sending you strength
Hi
I dont have the results yet ,but my case went to MDT and the nurses say I'm "straight to surgery" I am taking this as good news I will find out my results on Feb 1st ,this seems like SUCH a slow and frustrating process ,where no one seems able to answer any questions over the phone !
Best wishes Gemmary x x
Hi Im also waiting for a surgery date. I had my first consultation last Thursday, and was told the results of the polypectomy , and the surgery plan . I had a few questions yesterday and found the colorectal nurse really open and upfront in going over the information for me . I wanted to know the ins and outs of staging etc , and whether it was aggressive. Perhaps try again and ask the nurse for more info ? Do you have any questions that perhaps some of us could answer ? if it helps they were able to tell me that the cut on the polyp showed cancer cells so there is an indication its in the bowel wall . The also used the words moderately differentiated, They explained that they would remove 20 cm of my colon to also grab lymph nodes. I hope you get some answers i agree the waiting is horrible , best wishes , Dawn
Hi Dawn
I spoke to the nurse as you suggested and the cut showed cells also the biopsy showed a highly aggressive type.
Unfortunately covid has placed huge strain on the hospital so it will be at least a further 5 weeks before my op .
I hope you dont have such a wait best wishes x x
Hi I hope it’s helped a little having more info ? My procedure has been postponed! It should of been tomorrow but was cancelled 2 weeks ago because of no green safe areas in the ICU . All the nurse has said is I’m high priority and they hope it will resume in the next month - we might well be at the same time . Have you joined the bowel cancer uk online community? I find there is a bit more activity over there . At the moment a few have just had their operations and are discussing their aromas etc and recovery . I’m having a lower anterior resection
Hi, just wondering how your resection went, I hope it went well for you, I have mine on 3rd March, and I’m terrified xx
Hi
Just want to wish you all the best with your surgery .
If it’s a rectal tumour I could tag in a few people to share their experiences with you . Helps to reduce the fear .
Take care ,
