After effects of Capox

Hello. Following surgery, including a temporary stoma I was given Capox as a treatment because some lymph nodes were carrying. I really didn’t process the Capox well. The nausea and sickness became intolerable and I simply couldn’t eat and had very low (28) kidney readings. The treatment was stopped 11 days into the 2nd cycle ( 4 should have been taken.
On the week off at the end of cycle 1, my appetite came bac much more and the nausea stopped. I’m currently 6 weeks post chemo being stopped.  The poor appetite  and the nausea is still with me, and I’m being physically sick ( not every day) on good days I can eat around 1/10 of my usual food intake, I can manage around 3 forkfuls at a time. Can anyone shed any light on this? It’s seriosly affecting my everyday living and I’m feeling pretty desperate. Why was it ok on my first ‘week off’ but so bad now, and I’m 6 weeks post chemo. Has anyone experienced this? Can anyone suggest a way forward? Thank you so much.

  • Hi  and I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling like this. Do you have a colorectal support nurse at the hospital that you could speak to? If not it might be worth contacting your doctor and getting bloods done? I was readmitted about a month after surgery as I felt lousy and couldn’t eat and it was an infection so please get checked out. It might just be that the chemo has affected your stomach lining and they can prescribe you some tablets to help with that x

  • Thank you Karen. I’ve just been signed off from oncology and am being transferred back to Colerectomy. Oncology were flummoxed as to why I’m still feeling like this. I’ve been prescribed Ondansetron again, but they didn’t touch it last time.
I’ll see if the colorectal nurses have a view.
    Thank you

  • Ondansetron is the usual go to for sickness but doesn’t always suit everyone. It’s unusual for you to be feeling like this so many weeks after stopping chemo but previous posters have had good results with Emend during chemo?
