Hi everyone,
I had surgery a week ago to remove part of my rectum and colon. At first it was hard to work out which part of my abdomen hurt the most, but now that I’ve been home for 3 days and started moving around a bit more, I’ve realised that a lot of the pain is coming from my testicles.
Has anyone else experienced this? They don’t appear to be swollen or discoloured but they’re very tender to the touch (sorry for the image!) and are causing me quite a lot of discomfort. I’m taking plenty of paracetamol but have so far resisted reaching for the Tramadol (though I’ve got it if I need it).
Any info or suggestions on how to manage this would be welcome.
Many thanks,
Simon
Good evening, Simon.
I have read your message earlier today and notice you still not had a reply. If this pain is not improving and it being 3 days. It would be worth speaking with 111 for a medical review and ask for advice from them.
Hope it does settle and nothing to worry about.
Bw
Jamie
Hi Simon_CH I’m going to tag in Rosie13 as I think her son had a few problems after his surgery? I think one of them was epididymitis so if that sounds like your problem then you may need antibiotics?
Take care

ps you could also try ringing the ward that you were on to see if they’ll run it past the consultant on his rounds?
Hi Rosie13
Many thanks for your replies. I thought I would post a follow-up to tell you what has happened today. The pain got much worse in my testicles around midday today, so I went to A&E where they gave me enough morphine to relieve the pain - the worst pain I have ever known! Lying on the ground of the hospital car park while my wife went looking for a wheelchair was pretty bad!
They did a CT scan which showed some internal bleeding around the main surgical scar - exacerbated by the anti-coagulants that i had re-started after being discharged last Tuesday. They’re now doing some blood tests to check my haemoglobin - they seem positive that they won’t need to open me up again. I’m on more painkillers and they’ve also given me some anti-biotics and stopped the anti-coagulants. The pain has not entirely gone away but it’s much better than this afternoon.
The blood was going down to my testicles because of gravity which explains the pain down there (though I was fobbed off by the remote monitoring team who thought it was just general post-op pain) - I need to be more insistent next time.
In summary - don’t ignore this type of pain! I hope this info will be useful for others in the future.
Thanks again,
Simon
I did have a feeling it might have been something hence the 111 advice. So happy you managed to get it sorted. Hope this now means your recovery will be better. I had testicular pain after my surgery which is common for kidney removal. Although i was not i formed of it being a high possibility. Not nice for you amd your wife though having to go through this additional stress and worry.
Thank you for taking the time to update us all. Anything else or support then let us know and one of the champions in this forum will be more than happy to support and advise.
Best of luck.
Jamie
