I will be starting treatment on Friday using oxaliplaten and Capecitabine and was wondering if anyone has experience of using homeopathic remedies with these two drugs and what they were. The remedies my homeopath has recommended have been rejected by my oncology nurse as possibly having severe side effects with the drugs, although I can find no reference to this anywhere online.
Any advice from anyone who has experience of taking homeopathics would be helpful
HI David26,
Just to say I had the same - my oncologist had a very definitive NO response when I asked if I could take homeopathic things.
Through my three rounds of chemo, I’ve come to an eureka moment – the definitive thing that helps the most is walking. I have just finished a rather difficult round of chemo, but even on days I felt awful, I went for a small walk around the block. As I feel better I walk further, aiming for 60min+. I've proven it over and over - when I don't walk I feel worse, and I take longer to recover. A while ago I also found myself an oncology physio – she completes agrees…gentle exercise is the best thing you can do for your body while on chemo, and walking is perfect! She reckons even 10minutes helps.
On the subject of exercise, they have now discovered that doing neuromuscle training (basically balance exercises like standing on one leg) may prevent people developing peripheral neuropathy. (sure your chemo team has explained that neuropathy is an unfortunate possible side effect of oxaliplatin). So my tip would be - go for a walk and stand on one leg. ;-) Here is a link in case interested...

All the best.
Hi David26
You haven’t said which homeopathic remedies you are considering taking and this might be useful for others to know when answering.
There are definitely some things which should be avoided whilst on chemo, as some may cause side effects or interact with chemo drugs. I used to use homeopathic remedies myself before I had cancer or treatment, but the advice would always be to consult with your oncology team. I see your nurse has advised against using homeopathic remedies whilst on chemo, so if you choose to take them against medical advice then you would need to make sure your team are aware of what you’ve decided to take. This is so they can act quickly if you have any adverse reaction.
Personally, I’d listen to those who are treating me with chemo and take their advice, but we are all free to make our own decisions, so long as we are doing that with the right knowledge. There doesn’t seem to be much proven research on this.
Sarah xx
