Hello there,
I am now 74 and had a colonoscopy in February '24, where two polyps were discovered, one of which was cancerous. In April '24 I had a Hartmann's procedure and was declared cancer-free, thankfully it hadn't spread and I didn't need chemotherapy. I'm so grateful to the NHS, as I continue to lead a full and active life.
In the year 1 follow-up colonoscopy they found four polyps, all were removed and none were cancerous
From the post-op discussion with my consultant, I was told that there would be colonoscopies at years 1, 2 and 5. I'm concerned that due to the number of polyps found last time, and the fact that my father died from bowel cancer, I possibly pose a high risk of producing more polyps and, if left untreated, they might turn cancerous.
Has anyone been in this position and had colonoscopies at years 3 and 4?
Thank you for reading,
Neil
Hi Neil51 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Hi Neil - in Feb ‘23 I had a stage 3 tumour removed from my sigmoid colon along with 10 lymph nodes, one of which was cancerous. Twelve weeks of Capex chemo followed. I have annual bloods, CT Scans and colonoscopies, and so far I’m good. I have a 3 year CT Scan and colonoscopy early next year. Provided I’m in the clear that would be the end of it with the NHS. However, I have private health insurance and I intend to continue with annual colonoscopies in the future. I’m 70 years old.
Dave
