Hi, I had a successful LAR of the rectum/colon in 23 and a stoma reversal the following year. Aside from an annual blood test and CT I've not had any support from the hospital team aside from a small diet immediate post-op.
I was advised post stoma reversal to gradually introduce fibre. I've been doing so with no issues. Recently as the weather has turned colder I started eating a combination of Weetabix and All Bran as a breakfast which I find very satisfying as it keeps me full all morning. However I've noticed an increase in visits to the loo which I expected, but also vile, smelly pooh and wind. Has anyone had any similar issues with all bran? I also eat an enormous amount of fruit now with no ill effect but the recent addition of all bran seems to be having this unfortunate result.
Hi Barney59 Unfortunately LARS seems to be a condition that likes to carry on giving and sometimes there’s no rhyme nor reason to how something will affect you. It’s good to hear that you’re able to tolerate fruit so maybe you could try dropping the All Bran and having weetabix with a chopped banana? Or maybe try porridge? You could also try keeping a food diary to monitor the effect of new foods and then trying to pin down the culprits?
It is tough with LARS so it’s good to read that you sounded to be doing well until the breakfast combination. There is a board on here for people with LARS that you might like to look at too?
Take care
