Hi everyone in the group and I would like some advice for a problem that is worrying me. I had a right hemicolectomy  just over a year ago and have recovered well, though with loose stools which are now controlled by loperamide so I have been lucky that all the cancer was removed.

However I have recently been sulffering pain in my lower abdomen/groin area. I saw my gp who gave me antibiotics thinking it was perhaps connected to diverticulitis which was also found. Course fininshed by I still have the pain. I have a CT scan in 2 weeks time and have contacted the colon/rectal nurses who will look out for the results.

Its a bit of a worry and I was wondering has anyone had similar pains?

Thank you for any help

  • I certainly did for a while afterwards, I put it down to 'scar tissue' and maybe wind moving the bowel around.

Had it a few times, but it has settled down a lot now.

  • I hope you are doing ok.i thought I'd share my experience.

I had surgery in June 2024 to remove colon cancer. My surgery was successful and i was lucky not to have to have a stoma. Unfortunately i did have to have chemo as there was cancer found in my lymph nodes. I have recovered really well but it has taken me till now to start getting my bowels back to a form of normal. I still take loperamide but I'm finding i don't need it as much as I did.

I have pain sometimes, I tend to put it down to scar tissue (technical term i think is adhesions) When i get pain it starts a bit of a vicious circle effect on me. Because i start to worry.... the worry makes the pain worse..... Then i don't sleep well, which makes me tired, which also make me think the cancer is coming back. I take painkillers when i need them.

Worrying and stress really isn't good for us. It's just hard not to worry.

You have a ct scan booked so i really hope they are quick with your results and you can get on top of the pain.
