Hi,
I've been having difficulties since March with constipation and then the opposite, with rectal bleed, lower stomach pain, anal pain and hemorrhoids. A FIT test has just come back positive with a result of 400. I've been referred on a 2 week suspected cancer pathway and feel scared of the outcome. I was wondering if anyone else has had similar and what I am to expect.
TIA x
Hi Tipi4a1dcd and a warm welcome to the board. I’ve been on here for a long time and I’ve seen people with high figures where nothing sinister has been found and people with low figures who’ve been diagnosed with bowel cancer?
The important thing is that you’re getting checked out. Only 1 in 10 colonoscopies results in a bowel cancer diagnosis. The FIT test has shown that there has been blood found in your stool sample but there are several things that can have caused this such as haemorrhoids, colitis, crohns, diverticulitis etc.
Once you have had the colonoscopy then they will tell you what action they’ve taken and if they suspect it’s bowel cancer or not - samples sent off for testing would confirm this either way.
Hopefully you’ll get an appointment through quickly and please feel free to post again if you’ve any questions?
Take care

Hi Kareno62
Thank you for your message, it's reassured me somewhat. I have been given a telephone appointment with the colorectal team on Monday to discuss next steps. I have mixed feelings, hoping I will be reassured but also dreading the possible outcome and next steps.
I can't think about anything else.
Hi Tipi4a1dcd That’s natural hun but you need to know what’s causing these symptoms. If, and it is an if at this point, it does turn out to be bowel cancer then there is a lot of treatment available but we’ll cross that bridge if we get to it? x
Hi everyone, thank you for sharing the experiences. My husband had a CT scan in today’s morning. Initially, he had a sharp Tommy pain. It comes and goes. He had the fit test positive. Colonoscopy consultant said that tube went only half way through so there could be cancer because of the growth. They took a biopsy sample too. We haven’t heard anything yet . I don’t know they were supposed to tell the ct results today or letter. We haven’t heard anything yet. We have two little toddlers. My husband is 39 years old. We are more anxious and worried what is going to happen and how long nhs is going to take to have treatments. So many questions raised in our minds . Please give me some suggestions if anyone experienced the like my husband.
I was in a similar situation in October of 2024. From the cancer confirming colonoscopy to a CT scan took just days. The results can’t be given immediately as they have to be studied first, and it was two weeks later during an appointment with a consultant surgeon that the results were explained to me and a plan of action was laid out. This was surgery to remove the cancer.
It takes a little time for things to happen after the diagnosis, but rest assured that it will all be dealt with in a quick and timely manner. Please try not to worry too much, there are many people you can talk to at the hospital and on this site. It will be ok.
I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2023. Like your husband the tumour was apparent during the colonoscopy on entering the colon and a biopsy was taken. There was immediately no doubt it was cancer. A CT scan followed to identify the extent of the cancer. I had robotic surgery about 6 weeks later and the tumour was removed. Ten lymph nodes were also removed and one was found to contain cancer cells. I was in hospital for 5 days. A month after I left hospital I started 12 weeks of CAPOX chemo. I now have annual colonoscopies, CT scans and blood tests, and so far I’m ok.

Hi pkrf79eb4 and a warm welcome to the board. I was told straight after my colonoscopy that they were 99% sure it was bowel cancer and the CT scan confirmed this. The biopsy will have been sent off for testing but I’m not sure if CT scans are looked at by your hospital or sent off for assessing?
The usual procedure is that once the biopsy and scan results are back then the MDT ( multi disciplinary team) will meet and decide on a treatment plan for your hubby. They tend to only meet once a week but then you’ll get an appointment to discuss the next stage.
If the tests confirm that it is bowel cancer then there is a lot of treatment available.
Please keep us posted?
Take care

Thank you so much for your updates. I hope you are free from this disease. You are giving me a hope. I hope they will take a quick action once they have got all the results. I am worried that if they take longer things could get worst than now. I pray for your wellbeing
