Hi all,

just to introduce myself really. I got diagnosed officially yesterday with stage 4 CRC. It’s in my lymph nodes and was only found as I had swelling to left lymph node in my neck and some shortness of breath. All a bit of a shock and start treatment this week with chemo. Not sure how I’ll react to chemo and if upset stomach is cancer or nerves!

after top tips and management strategies for chemo as it’s currently my only option. It’s flurouracil and irinotecan. Anyone familiar with this combo as most people seem to have a different one for bowel CA on this forum. Those who’ve had would you recommend the cold cap?

anyway. Hi. And I look forward to interacting with you. Your stories are inspiring. Thank you

  • Hi

Hope the chemo does a wonderful job for you .
My mum was a stage 4 patient for a long time and used chemo then some surgery and then a targeted treatment . She got great results with them all . She had distant lymph node involvement laterally but it disappeared with a targeted treatment alone . So hopefully you will get your lymph node involvement under control .

First line treatment is often the one you are having or Oxaliplatin. They are both good and can be down to the oncologist’s preference.

My friend with breast cancer tried the cold cap but gave her a headache after a bit but others do well with it .

Oxaliplatin does not cause as much hair loss .

I think if you have a look in bowel cancer U.K. you will find a few people who have been on your combination for years , seven plus . They will have some good advice on side effects etc .

My mum was a stage 4 patient for 15 years so it’s definitely not without hope .

Take care and all the very best with your treatment . Let us know how you get on .
