Hello
My cancer journey began in May 2019 - when I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer, & needed a left Hemicolectomy Op. Following that, I had no Chemo, but developed a couple of Lung nodules the following year - which I was fortunate enough to have Ablation treatment for.
People here often worry about their CEA level markers - which according to guidelines are supposed to be below 3.
When I was diagnosed, my CEA was 10. Since then, I have been followed with regular blood tests & CT scans, for the past 6 year, & always, my CEA No. has been between 5 & 6 - which might seem high to some. However, it's a very personal marker. I am a smoker - which always raises that number.
Yesterday, after 7 years of having been followed by the wonderful DCH in Dorset, I was told that I was still 6, & that I would not need another blood test follow up.I just need another CT scan this December.
So - don't worry too much about the CEA numbers, & I sincerely thank the hospital that has followed me on this long journey. It's good to know that you are being well looked after!
