Hello everyone,
Im new to this.
I am about to start chemotherapy for the first time after having two rounds of radiotherapy that did not work. It will be for at least 3 months.
I think I’ve decided on the mixture with the drip and tablets. Has anyone had this type of chemotherapy who can give me anything on what to expect as I’m petrified.
Thanks in advance
Hi Lauren, everyone has different side effects on the meds and it depends on which meds you are taking. I was on IV Oxaliplatin and Capecetabine but had severe reaction to the Oxaliplatin so I am now just taking the tablets but for longer. I don’t get any side effects from the Capecetabine. It is trial and error to see what suits you and whether any adjustments need to be made. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Hi Lauren C and a warm welcome to the board. Yes, chemo sounds scary but sometimes it’s reputation is worse than the actual experience? There can be a lot of side effects but there are also lots of pills and potions to combat them so make sure you tell your nurses if you’re struggling as trying a different anti sickness pill or reducing the dosage can make all the difference.
I’ve attached a link to a post that we started a few years ago with some top tips on
There’s also a good post currently on the go which may be useful too
Hope these help and please let us know how you get on - we’re all at different stages of treatment and recovery on here so happy to help and offer advice
Take care
